25. January 25, 2012

So today I learned very good things as well as not-so-good-yet-valuable things as well. We'll start with the good:
1. On average, a stagehand working backstage or work-calls will burn 265 calories per hour.
2. On average, dancing salsa for an hour straight will burn 442 calories.

Onto the less "good" but still valuable lesson I learned today (which is more advice, really):
As many of us already know, there is nothing less attractive than insecurities. But let's be honest, there's not one person out there who is 100% secure about everything they do or who they are. What I discovered about myself is that I really get turned off by overt insecurities that are written all over someone's face and expressed in how they carry themselves and in how they behave. It's ok to be insecure, really, in fact it's healthy and keeps you grounded and in check. The irritating part is when your insecurities are written all over your face and I don't even know you. People who don't know you and can tell you carry baggage will not want to get to know you and volunteer to be your therapist. So... don't impose it on people who aren't asking, whether purposely or not. Instead, it's ok to pretend you're confident until you start to believe it... Really believe, think, and know that you are confident and people will naturally start gravitating toward your positive energy and they'll then be happy to be your sounding board--your shoulder to cry on. It's really ok to be yourself... You don't have to try so hard to please everyone, or anyone.
